Abstract. In the first half of the 19th century, one of the urgent tasks of Russian authorities was to ensure governors\u2019 and other officials\u2019 professionalism and efficiency. The Imperial Lyceum whose graduates were expected to occupy positions in the government, was created to solve this urgent task.<\/p>\n

The article analyzes previously uninvestigated archival materials. The author of the article attempts to trace lyceum graduates\u2019 careers as governors in the 1860s during the Great Reforms when qualified and efficient officials were highly needed.<\/p>\n
