The example of the works of the first Russian historians A. I. Lyzlov and G. F. Miller shows the foundations of the modern \u201cscholarly narrative\u201d related to the life and activities of one of the most important characters of Old Russian literature \u2014 Prince Alexander Nevsky \u2014 were formed on the basis of the previous historical tradition. Lyzlov and Miller represent the two main socio-cultural types of historians of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Lyzlov was a free intellectual whose fascination with history was a way of self-expression and realization of personal interest. Miller is a professional in the narrow sense of the word, whose pursuits are explicitly conditioned by his official duties as an academic scholar. However, for all the differences in approaches, both researchers employed similar intellectual tools and can equally be considered the authors of the methodological basis for further development of Russian historical science.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Keywords:<\/em><\/strong> \u0410.
