Abstract. <\/em><\/strong>The relevance of this article is due to the fact that the description of the regional uniqueness of the language reflects the specific history and culture of this region. The necessity of fixing and preserving culture-oriented facts contributes to the expansion of ideas about the Russian language as a linguistic, cultural and historical phenomenon. The aim of the article is to describe the composition and ways of identifying inhabitants of the Donetsk Region by their place of residence or birth. The paper includes an analysis of lexicographic data (including the reference dictionary compiled by E. A. Levashov) and materials of modern regional media. The object of the study is the demonyms of Donbas, and the subject is their composition and ways of naming the residents. The article defines the term demonym<\/em> as the name of residents formed by the name of their place of residence and acts as an toponymic derivative with the generalized meaning of names of persons by place of residence<\/em>. It states that demonymy (demonymikon) is a set of all local demonyms functioning in a certain territory, and demonymy is the study of names of the inhabitants of this territory. The analysis of the material brought us to the conclusion that the demonyms of the Donetsk Region are derivatives in word-forming nests of oikonyms, developed by many ethnic groups speaking different languages participated over a long time. The analysis of the material also contributed to the establishment of the most common and rarer word-forming types of the demonyms.<\/p>\n
