Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article examines the phenomenon of violent crimes and their gender differentiation in historical retrospect. The material is taken from Great Britain, as the country addressed the problem of escalation of violence in the 18th century. Its evidence is presented in a unique historical source, The Newgate Calendar, a catalogue of prisoners with their biographical data and descriptions of the crimes. To comprehend domestic abuse and violence, firstly, from the point of view of the perpetrators, and secondly, through the prism of its literary and personal interpretations, we have reconstructed several illustrative male and female biographies. The psychological states and emotional reactions of the criminal were analyzed, taking into account modern research in criminal psychology and the theoretical and methodological concepts of domestic violence.<\/p>\n
