In this context, illness is not regarded simply as a condition but as a key turning point in personal evolution. The aim of this article is to determine the role of illness and recovery motifs in the spiritual transformation of individuals in I. S. Shmelev\u2019s works. The study is based on the biographical method, intertextual analysis, and analysis of motif. On the material of Fir Paws and The Blessed Ones, the author explores the unity of the body and spirit, the sacred locus of healing, the specificity of confessor characters, the motif of miracles, and related symbolism. In his works, Shmelev referred to the Gospel context, shifting the focus from the treatment of the flesh to the salvation of the soul. Furthermore, he developed a model for the transformation of patient images into healers. This transforms miracles into a key driver of the plot. In this context, healing is not simply elimination of physical suffering, but a total transformation, achieving the \u201cunity of soul and body.\u201d This is most fully embodied in the writer\u2019s images of confessors: through voluntary ascetic suffering, the body becomes an instrument for realizing spiritual needs, while the strength of spirit enables the individual to overcome physical limitations. The image of fir branches is considered in the context of personal and cultural memories of recovery, cementing personal and sacred experience.
