Abstract<\/strong>The present study is devoted to the analysis of the category of emotivity in the works of Anton Chekhov at different periods of the writer\u2019s career. The purpose of the article is a systematic analysis of verbal and non-verbal means of emotivity in Chekhov\u2019s early and later fiction and in a story belonging to the \u201cturning point\u201d stage of his work (as periodized by L. P. Gromov). The paper addresses the most striking works of different creative periods of the writer\u2019s work (\u201cChameleon\u201d (1884), \u201cVanka\u201d (1886), and \u201cTsarina Anna\u2019s Order\u201d (1895). The study of emotivity in its dynamics and the consideration of the system of semantic emotive microfields determine the relevance of the current article. The results of the study show that Anton Chekhov\u2019s preferred means throughout his writing career were mostly non-verbal, related to oculexics, haptics, and kinesics. In Chekhov\u2019s early fiction, affection-forming units (interjections) and derived words become much more important, and in later (and at the \u201cturning point\u201d period) potential lexemes and direct nominations of emotions are more important. The stories related to the early and \u201cturning point\u201d period of Chekhov\u2019s work have a semantic structure based on the juxtaposition of microfields of emotions, while the writer\u044ds late prose is more characterized by the presence of an emotional dominant expressed by a large number of lexemes. An appeal to the historical aspect makes it possible to identify potential lexemes (such a potential lexeme is, for example, the adjective \u201cdear\u201d, which was a formula of politeness in combination with lexemes related to the concept of \u201cfamily\u201d in the 19th century in Russia). The study analyzed more than 40 contexts. The results of the work can be used in courses of psycholinguistics and emotiology, in special seminars and special courses.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
