Abstract. The article is devoted to the training of skilled workers for handicrafts. The relevance of the topic is due to the increasing interest of government agencies and entrepreneurs in the development of small-scale production. In market conditions education becomes one of the tools of competitive struggle, and in this connection it is important to address to the historical experience of training qualified personnel for artisanal and handicraft production. Based on regional materials of Moscow and Moscow Governorate in the 1920s, the article reveals the development of a new type of educational institutions: schools of artisanal apprenticeship, which trained specialists for handicraft trades Statistical data on the number of artisanal educational institutions are given, the reasons for the uneven expansion of the school network are clarified. Special attention is paid to issues of material support: poor supply of schools led to difficulties in the educational process, which could be overcome through the support of departmental bodies and independent activities of schools to fulfill orders. The analysis of the social composition of the students shows that, in general, the favorable student population in terms of class selection did not correspond to the artisanal profile of the schools due to the lack of involvement of artisanal representatives. Responsibility for the involvement of artisans was borne by the heads of schools. The issue of employment of graduates of artisanal and handicraft schools is also considered, and the reasons for the incomplete coverage of the needs of industrial cooperation by young workers are explained. In conclusion, it is concluded that, despite all the difficulties, the schools found an important place in the system of vocational training.
Keywords: artisan apprenticeship schools, artisan and handicraft education, employment of graduates.
