Abstract. The relevance of the article is due to the significance of studying the process of adaptation of British monarchy to changing reality. The aim of the study is to present the formation of the English monarchy and its ability to survive in the 21st century. The study also raises the issue of the possibility of a republic in England. It examines the attitude to the idea of republicanism of British political parties, Labor and Conservative governments, individual prime ministers and eminent persons in society and politics. An analysis of the activity of the anti-monarchical organization called “Republic” is presented. It is shown that along with the strengthening of the sovereign’s power there have occurred some “crisis” periods that weakened the monarchy. These periods are established according to the works of English researchers and biographers of the royal family. Based on the results of the analysis of the public survey, the attitude of the British people to the royal family and King Charles III, as well as the attitude to the monarchy as a whole is revealed.
Keywords: royal family, monarchy, nation, politics, law, republicanism, sovereign.
