Abstract. The purpose of the article is to define and describe the parameters of formation of the linguo-cognitive category of aggression in the Russian language. The variety of forms of manifestation of verbal aggression, its great influencing potential dictate the need to describe the linguo-cognitive parameters that underlie it. The article formulates the thesis that aggression is a linguo-cognitive category that includes five parameters: purposefulness, affectivity, persuasiveness, anti-axiologiness and national-cultural interaction. The set of these parameters is united in the human consciousness in the “linguo-cognitive unit” of aggression,
expressed by various linguistic means. It is substantiated that purposefulness as a linguo-cognitive parameter of aggression consists in causing harm to an object (a specific person, a mass addressee, the addresser himself). Affectivity reflects a negative emotional state of the subject expressing aggression, Persuasiveness results in direct negative impact on the addressee, manipulation of his cognitive attitudes. The national-cultural interaction reflects the peculiarities of the Russian linguistic mentality in the expression of aggression; anti-axiology distorts the values of the addressee or negatively affects them through verbal aggression. The present study employed the general scientific inductive-deductive method and the method of component analysis. The practical significance of this research is determined by the possibility of applying the results in the educational process in tertiary school.
