Publication ethics

The Editorial Board of the academic journal Bulletin of the Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin adheres to the laws of the Russian Federation regarding copyright and plagiarism, as well as the publication ethics accepted by the international community and reflected in the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications, developed in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and in the Declaration of the Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers (ANRI).

The Editorial Board of the Bulletin of Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin is guided by the principles of validity, reliability, professionalism and impartiality.

Manuscripts submitted to the editorial board must be original works; they must contain a comprehensive examination of the research problem, its analysis, and a description of the methods used, as well as scientifically sound conclusions, and must accurately and reliably reflect the content and results of the research. The review section of the study will present an objective systematization of the principles directly relevant to the research problem, supported by references and citations

The editorial board of the academic journal Bulletin of the Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin will ensure confidentiality of the authors’ personal data and the results of their research throughout the process of manuscript submission, peer review, and publication.

At the pre-review stage, the editorial board retains the right to reject an article if it does not correspond to the journal’s scope, violates formatting requirements, or breaches the academic ethics guidelines. The editorial board will not accept manuscripts that include citations of materials—including text excerpts, tables, figures, graphs, and diagrams—without citing their sources, with improperly referenced sources, or without the copyright holder’s consent. A manuscript may also be rejected if it contains obviously erroneous or false data or statemen

 

Ethical Guidelines for Editor

Since the editor takes responsibility for everything the journal publishes, the Board will adhere to the following principles:

  • When making publishing decisions, the editor should be guided by the principles of validity, responsibility, and academic merit of the manuscript submitted.
  • When assessing the intellectual content of manuscripts, the editors should be free from biased decisions based on authors’ race, gender, sexual identity, religious or political views, origin, citizenship, or social status.
  • The editors should never disclose any portion of submitted manuscripts prior to publication, use manuscripts for their own personal ends or pass them to third parties without obtaining the author’s written authorization.
  • The editor may consult members of the editorial board and external reviewers when deciding whether to publish an article;
  • The editor must not accept a manuscript for publication if there are sufficient grounds to believe that it contains plagiarism or was generated using AI technologies.

Plagiarism is deliberate appropriation of another author’s work of art or research, or other authors’ ideas or inventions. Plagiarism constitutes copyright infringement and patent law infringement and may entail legal liability.

The Editorial Board of the Bulletin of Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin bans from publishing articles containing plagiarism in the following forms:

  • unauthorized word-for-word quoting of another researcher’s work without acknowledging the original researcher’s authorship, without reference to the source, without enclosing the copied portion in quotation marks.
  • unauthorized rephrasingof another researcher’s work, which consists in reformulating one or several sentences of a paragraph or text or in using original sentences in a different order without citing the source. Extensive use of incorrect paraphrasing without citing the source is deemed equivalent to word-for-word plagiarism.
  • usurping components of another researcher’s work without acknowledging that researcher’s authorship, for example a paragraph, a figure, or a table, without citing the source and without enclosing the copied portion of the original in quotation marks.

The editorial policy of the Bulletin of the Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin does not admit the publication of articles that contain a significant amount of self-citation. Verbatim copying of one’s own works and their paraphrasing are not permitted; they may be used only as a basis for new conclusions, and references must be provided to the author’s previously published works.

The journal’s policy regarding the use of artificial intelligence technologies is based on the following principles:

  • The editorial board accepts for consideration articles prepared using generative artificial intelligence, provided that there is full transparency in disclosing information about its use within the text of the article and that the author assumes full responsibility when referring to such;
  • AI technologies may be used only as an auxiliary tool, exclusively at the drafting stage of the article, for collecting data for the research; but final revisions, editing, fact-checking, and final adaptation of the text are carried out by the author personally;
  • The author may indicate the use of generative artificial intelligence in the introduction, when describing the research methods, noting the name, version, and developer of the artificial intelligence tools used (e.g., GPT-4, developed by OpenAI, version number …) and the query templates;
  • AI cannot be listed as an author (or co-author), or be included in the acknowledgement list of persons who contributed to the research and preparation of the article;
  • If the text contains fragments that are suspected of being generated, the editorial board reserves the right to reject the manuscript without the possibility of further revision.

 

Editorial decisions will be taken within time limits stipulated in the Editorial Review section.

 

Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers

 

All content published in the journal undergoes mandatory peer review by members of the editorial board and/or external independent experts. When submitting a manuscript for review, the editor consults experts who are recognized specialists in the relevant field with no conflict of interest. Reviewers are guaranteed anonymity. A review is an original work that does not infringe on the intellectual property rights of third parties (including copyright, brand name, and/or private property rights). Reviews may not be prepared using artificial intelligence, and must not contain any form of plagiarism.

Since peer reviewers are responsible for academic expertise of submitted manuscripts, they should be free from any biased opinions and should adhere to the following principles:

  • only agree to review manuscripts for which they have the subject expertise required to carry out a proper assessment and which they can assess in a timely manner;
  • respect the confidentiality of peer review and not reveal any details of a manuscript or its review during or after the peer-review process beyond those who are authorized by the journal;
  • never use information obtained during the peer-review process for their own or any other person’s or organization’s advantage, or to disadvantage or discredit third parties;
  • write reviews objectively and constructively, focusing on content-related criticism and refraining from hostile, inflammatory, unlawful, and defamatory statements, as well as from slanderous or humiliating comments containing racial or gender-based offensive remarks;
  • assess submitted manuscripts in an unbiased and fair manner, or otherwise abstain from reviewing them;
  • never disclose any details of a manuscript or its review;
  • notify the editorial staff if circumstances arise that prevent the timely preparation of the review;
  • immediately notify the editorial staff if they come across any errors in the submitted work, have concerns about its ethical aspects, are aware of substantial similarity between the manuscript and another document;
  • never intentionally prolong the review process by delaying the submission of a review or by requesting unnecessary additional information from journal or author;
  • never intentionally delay the review process or the submission of a review by requesting unnecessary additional information from the journal or the author;
  • ensure that the assessment of the reviewed manuscript rests on the merits of the work and is not influenced by personal, financial or other considerations or intellectual biases;
  • never contact the authors without prior permission of the journal;
  • provide an objective and constructive review that includes recommendations for revising the work and for further research, and that can help the authors improve their manuscript;
  • never make derogatory personal comments or unfounded accusations;
  • be specific in their criticism and provide evidence with appropriate references to substantiate the reviewer’s statements;
  • never suggest that authors should include citations to the reviewer’s (or their associates’) works merely to increase the reviewer’s (or their associates’) citation count or to enhance the visibility of their works;
  • if there are concerns that the article or parts of it were generated using AI, this may be noted in the review as a factor affecting the accuracy of the research results and/or the article’s suitability for publication.

 

Ethical Guidelines for Authors

 

An author (co-author) is a person who has made a significant contribution to the submitted manuscript, in terms of research strategy development, data acquisition, data analysis and interpretation. The authors bear collective responsibility for their work and the content of the publication, for the novelty and reliability of the research results, and for ensuring that no claims are falsified.

Researchers must ensure that only those persons who meet the criteria for authorship (i.e., who have made a significant contribution to the work) are listed as authors, and that researchers deserving of authorship are not excluded from the list of authors. Any changes to the list of authors must be approved by all the authors, including those who are being removed from the list.

The authors should check their publications carefully at all stages to ensure that their methods and findings are reported accurately.

 

The Bulletin of Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin accepts only articles which have never been published before. Manuscripts submitted to the Bulletin of RSU named for S. Yesenin must be original contributions not previously published in any other journal or in any other form (under a different title, in another version, or in collaboration) and cannot be under review elsewhere. If some parts of the article have been previously published in any journal (including the Bulletin of Ryazan State University named for S. Yesenin), the author is expected to provide a reference to the previously published work. Previously published papers should neither be copied nor paraphrased. They can only be used as a basis to generate new conclusions.

The authors should carefully check all calculations, data presentation, documentation and proof.

The authors should immediately notify the editor if an error is found in any paper they have submitted for publication, accepted for publication, or already published.

The authors should cooperate with editors in issuing corrections and retractions when required.

The authors should cooperate with editors or publishers to correct their work as soon as possible if errors or omissions are discovered after publication.

The publication should cite relevant previous works (by the same author or by other researchers) and do so correctly and accurately. Whenever possible, the original source should be cited.

Citations and references to other works must be accurate and carefully formatted. Direct quotations from the works of other researchers must be indicated by quotation marks and accompanied by the appropriate citation. Excessive self-citation, friendly citation, and irrelevant citations intended to artificially inflate scientometric indices are not permitted.

AI technologies mentioned in the article may be used only as a supplementary tool and must be clearly labeled as such.

The authors are required to comply with the publishers’ requirement that the work not be submitted for publication to more than one journal at the same time.

The authors must inform the editor if they refuse to have their work peer-reviewed or prefer not to respond to the reviewer’s comments after receiving conditional acceptance for publication.

All financial sources must be disclosed by the authors in the body of the article. The authors agree to disclose any conflicts of interest — financial or professional — that could influence the results obtained in the course of the research. Conflicts of interest may include financial support received for conducting the research (or a part of it), financial compensation for participation in the work, or fees received from organizations that have a stake in the research. Information on conflicts of interest provided by the authors is not shared with reviewers but is published as part of the full text of the article.
