Abstract. The peer-reviewed monograph by Olga Mikhaylovna Valova, doctor of philology, professor of Vyatka State University for the Humanities, and Vladimir Grigoryevich Reshetov, Doctor of Philology, Professor of Ryazan State University named for S. A. Yesenin, is devoted to the study of a specific aspect of O. Wilde’s work: the genre and style specificity of the British playwright’s tragedies. The dominant feature of the study is the philosophical component of the writer’s work, as well as the philosophical basis of his aestheticism, so, analyzing the plays in detail and consistently, the authors of the monograph do not limit themselves to the consideration of Wilde’s dramatic heritage alone, presenting in their work a new holistic portrait of this major figure of the English decadence. The monograph was published on the eve of Oscar Wilde’s 170th anniversary.
