Abstract. This article addresses a significant gap in our knowledge of the contribution of Soviet historiography to the study of the Polish national movement at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It highlights the fact that only a limited number of works were exclusively dedicated to the analysis of Polish nationalism. Instead, this topic was often explored indirectly within the context of publications on the history of labor, revolutionary, and internationalist movements, as well as the ideology and tactics of social-democratic organizations. Many of these studies were shaped by the political climate of the time. The prevailing consensus among Soviet historians emphasized the transformative impact of the Russian Revolution of 1905–1907 and World War I on the “Poland issue.” The primary focus of research was on the Polish Socialist Party and the National League, with particular attention to the ideological positions of their leaders, Jozef Pilsudski and Roman Dmowski. The restoration of Poland’s independence was frequently attributed to the influence of the October Revolution, overlooking the multifaceted nature of this process, which included other factors and the international context, the collapse of empires, and the strong Polish national movement.
