Some aspects of atmospheric and geomorphological relationships in high convective instability of air masses
AbstractThe research discusses direct and indirect influence of the morphology of a topographic surface and the forms of paleorelief on air currents in pre-frontal depressions. It considers the significant differences in intensity of squall winds and associated windbreaks on the windward and leeward slopes of highlands, as well as on positive and negative elements of flat terrain. Using the example of the landscapes of the Meshchera Lowlands, the article characterizes pyrogenesis as a thermal trigger of convective processes and analyzes its spatial patterns, including the close relationship between primary fire sources and the direction of their expansion from buried paleovolcanoes (both pre-Pleistocene and pre-Jurassic). The synoptic conditions of catastrophic activation of pyrogenesis (mass transition of ground fires into surface fires) are characterized, including the presence of a deep active cyclone over Scandinavia and the passage of a pre-frontal depression (squall line) or a cold front through the territory with primary pyrogenic foci. The presence of four stages of surface fire development is established, and their geophysical nature is substantiated. According to satellite monitoring data, cartographic materials, and reanalysis data, the spread of a fire in the first stage depends on the direction of the leading flow at the 500 hPa isobaric level, and there is a “turning point” in the expansion of the fire, which is 13,5–14,5 km away from the initial fire source in terms of the meteorological azimuth of the gradient wind at the 700 hPa level, adjusted for the 45-degree aeostrophic deviation of the surface wind from the gradient wind. The identified spatio-temporal patterns of pyrogenesis are stable, as they typically repeat during drought periods, and can be used to predict and combat fires. During the expeditionary radio sounding, we obtain data on the transformation of the vertical and horizontal components of the wind speed by the forms of the flat relief, such as the Oka floodplain and the Troitsk plateau: orographic ascent of air currents to heights that are 30 times greater than the size of the geomorphological irregularities, as well as an equally intense orographic descent, as well as fundamental differences (by 19-178°) in the meteorological direction of the actual wind from the results of modeling (Ventusky and CUSF models), which are caused by the imperfections of modern calculation schemes.
