AbstractThe article provides a historiographical review of publications on the Old Believers from the 19th to the early 20th centuries, focusing on the marital practices of Old Believers at the Izhevsk lant. It analyzes key works, including those by Molzinsky, Berdnikov, Vasina, and Kanateva, highlighting the specifics of demographic processes and the legal status of marriages among schismatics. Particular attention is given to the differences between ecclesiastical and secular (legal) interpretations of marital unions, as well as the impact of state policy on their legitimization. Based on archival data from Izhevsk and the Vyatka Governorate, the study demonstrates the level of official marriage registration and the confessional structure of marital unions. Gaps in the study of marital practices are identified, including the lack of data on edinoveriemembers and mixed marriages. The article emphasizes the need for in-depth archival analysis and the application of the prosopographical method to comprehensively understand the social roles of Old Believers, outlining prospects for further research within the context of regional specificity and confessional interactions.
